Terms of Service
Last updated: 27 September 2026
1. Who operates the platform
Michal Kot, trading as TheProperHandyman
Birmingham, England, United Kingdom
Email: [email protected]
These terms govern your use of TheProperHandyman. Read our Privacy Policy for how we use personal data and our Refunds & Cancellation Policy for paid memberships. The privacy notice explains our processing; accepting these terms is not consent to marketing.
2. Accounts and acceptable use
You must be at least 18 and provide accurate, up-to-date information. Keep your email account and sign-in links secure. Homeowners and tradespeople have different account features; registration does not grant administrative access.
Do not post unlawful, misleading or abusive content, submit jobs without permission, impersonate others, scrape contact details or contact homeowners for unrelated marketing. We may remove content or restrict accounts to investigate misuse. Contact support if you believe a restriction is incorrect. This does not remove any applicable refund or statutory rights.
3. Posting jobs and arranging work
Homeowners can post jobs free of charge. A working phone number, email and UK postcode are required so interested tradespeople can contact you. You must have permission to request work at the property and to upload any photographs.
Matching tradespeople can view job summaries, outward postcode areas and authorised job photos. Full contact details, full postcode and any street address are available after unlocking the job. Previously unlocked contacts and photos remain in that tradesperson’s job history when the job closes. Avoid putting private details into descriptions or photographs.
TheProperHandyman connects homeowners with independent tradespeople. We do not carry out building, plumbing, electrical or handyman work, collect payment for that work, or enter into the work contract. Agree the scope, price, timing, insurance and payment directly with your chosen tradesperson. You are free to decline any quote.
4. Tradesperson memberships and allowances
A membership provides access to the job board and a contact-unlock allowance within the trade categories and service radius described on the pricing page. The effective radius is the smaller of your profile radius and your plan radius, measured between postcode centres. We do not currently offer separate purchases of individual leads.
A job unlock uses one allowance unit; reopening an already unlocked contact does not use another. Free allowances renew by calendar month at 00:00 UTC. Paid allowances follow the confirmed subscription billing period. Unused allowances do not roll over. Switching a free plan does not reset contacts already unlocked that month.
Jobs depend on homeowner submissions. We do not guarantee a minimum number of jobs, replies, quotes, exclusive leads or contracts. Membership payment is for the described platform access and allowance. Report inaccurate or fraudulent requests to support so we can investigate; there is no separate automatic lead-credit guarantee. Your rights concerning a faulty or misdescribed service remain unaffected.
Free or beta access requires no payment and does not automatically become a paid subscription. Any paid purchase requires a separate checkout. Paid memberships are available only when checkout is enabled.
5. Paid orders through Paddle
When Paddle checkout is available, Paddle.com is the online reseller and Merchant of Record for paid membership orders. The relevant Paddle entity is identified at checkout and on your receipt. Paddle handles the payment transaction, applicable sales taxes, billing enquiries and returns. We provide platform access and product support. Physical trade work is outside this arrangement.
Paid purchases are also subject to Paddle’s Buyer Terms and Paddle’s Refund Policy. You can review and correct your order before paying. Checkout confirms the recurring amount, applicable taxes and billing frequency. Access starts following secure payment confirmation.
Paid memberships renew monthly until cancelled. Cancel through the Paddle customer portal linked from your receipt or Paddle payment support before the next renewal to prevent further charges. A scheduled cancellation normally leaves access available until the paid period ends. See our refund and cancellation instructions. Changing account details or stopping use does not cancel billing.
6. Business purchases and consumer rights
Tradesperson memberships are intended for business use. Consumer protections depend on the capacity in which you purchase and applicable law. Where you qualify as a UK consumer, withdrawal rights may apply during the first 14 days, subject to the rules for immediate digital supply. We do not treat a job unlock, or acceptance of these terms alone, as an automatic waiver of those rights. The applicable checkout disclosures and Paddle’s terms explain the transaction-specific conditions. Nothing here limits mandatory consumer rights.
7. Profiles, checks and responsibility
Profile information is supplied by tradespeople. A displayed verification or insurance badge does not guarantee workmanship, suitability or continuing registration or insurance. Ask the tradesperson for current evidence and check the relevant professional register before agreeing work.
We are responsible for providing our platform with reasonable care and skill. Independent tradespeople are responsible for their work and their obligations to homeowners. We do not exclude liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Consumer rights relating to our own service remain unaffected.
8. Changes, complaints and governing law
We may update these terms to reflect service or legal changes. Material changes affecting existing memberships will be communicated before they take effect; posting a new version does not retrospectively change an existing paid order. Please save a copy of the terms applying when you purchase.
Send platform complaints to [email protected], with the job or membership reference and a description of the issue. Contact Paddle for payment disputes. These platform terms follow the law of England and Wales. Mandatory consumer protections and any right to bring proceedings in your local courts remain unaffected. Paddle purchases have their own governing-law provisions.
