Cookie Policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026 • Cookies and local storage used by this service.
This Cookie Policy explains how Michal Kot, trading as TheProperHandyman uses cookies and similar storage technologies (such as HTML5 LocalStorage and SessionStorage) on https://theproperhandyman.uk. We believe in complete transparency, keeping tracking to an absolute minimum required for reliable, secure marketplace functionality.
1. What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) by websites that you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, provide secure authentication, and remember your display preferences.
In addition to cookies, we use browser local storage (such as localStorage and sessionStorage) to remember your interaction preferences (for example, whether you have already dismissed a banner or installed our Progressive Web App).
2. Cookies and Storage Items We Use
Our application uses the following cookies and storage items. HTTPS sign-in cookies may use __Secure- or __Host- prefixes. Browser and payment-provider features can also use their own storage:
| Identifier | Category | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| authjs.session-token | Strictly Necessary | 30 days / Session | Identifies your signed-in session; the session itself is stored in our database. |
| authjs.csrf-token | Strictly Necessary | Session | Protects against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) on forms. |
| authjs.callback-url | Strictly Necessary | Session | Remembers your destination page after completing magic link sign-in. |
| pwa_install_dismissed_at | Functional (localStorage) | 14 days | Prevents the “Add to Home Screen” prompt from appearing repeatedly if dismissed. |
| ios_install_hint_dismissed | Functional (localStorage) | Persistent | Remembers if an iOS Safari user has dismissed the home screen installation hint. |
| pwa_page_views | Functional (sessionStorage) | Browser Session | Counts page views within a single visit before showing installation prompts. |
Checkout, security and tracking
We do not run advertising trackers or third-party audience analytics. The page-view counter above stays in your browser session and is used for the app-install prompt; it is not sent to an analytics service.
Cloudflare may use security cookies when needed for bot protection or challenges. When you proceed to an enabled paid checkout, Paddle’s checkout can use cookies and similar technologies for payment-session and fraud-prevention purposes. See Paddle’s Privacy Policy and any choices presented by Paddle. We do not load Paddle checkout on ordinary public pages. Non-essential tracking introduced in future will require the applicable consent controls.
3. How to Control and Delete Cookies
Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser settings to decline or delete them if you prefer. However, please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in with magic links and accessing your user dashboard.
